OK, so you don't actually have to be throwing your wired bra out the window, but I did get your attention, and that is what I was hoping to do!
For years, we've heard that wired bras were not good for us to wear, but what does that really mean?
I did try on wireless bras in the past, but I wasn't thrilled at how my B cup looked like a flat-chested 0-cup. Ugh. Nope, that was not going to work for me!
I didn't like the choices back then, so I happily kept wearing my wired bra!
However, I've recently discovered why wearing wired bras is not the best choice for our breasts.
It has to do with the Lymph nodes and Lymphatic system in and around the breast tissue and armpits.

What is the Lymphatic system?
Our bodies have a network of lymph vessels and lymph nodes, which are part of the body's immune system.
Just as veins collect and carry blood throughout the body, lymph vessels carry a watery yellow fluid called lymph.
Lymph flows through the lymphatic system and eventually drains into veins. This system helps to eliminate waste products from the body.

Lymph and Breast Tissue
Your breast tissue goes up to your collarbone and armpit. The armpits have many lymph nodes, also known as lymph glands.
The inner mammary chain is a series of lymph nodes running up the center of your chest. It's vital to examine these areas regularly.
Accumulated Toxins
Blocking off lymphatic drainage while wearing a wired bra allows toxic chemicals to stay trapped in the breast tissue. As a result, it may aid in the growth of breast cancer.
Free-flowing Drainage
The body must regularly detoxify itself of waste products and other harmful or toxic substances from the industrialized world.
The amount and degree to which the lymphatic system can drain these toxins depends mainly on body movements to energize it.
A form-fitting wired bra blocks the flow.
Massaging the lymph in and around the breast is one of the best ways to keep the lymph flowing.
I have been doing breast massage for a while, and it has helped so much with breast tenderness, too!
My Lymphatic Breast Massage Story
In 2011, during a regular mammogram, they found a Fibroadenoma in my right breast. A fibroadenoma is a painless, unilateral, benign breast tumor.
They said it's pretty common and not something I need to do anything about. A mammogram was recommended the following year to monitor it.
If there were no changes in the Fibroadenoma, I'd go back to every two years. My last Mammogram was in 2018, pre-pandemic, with no changes.
My next mammogram was scheduled for Spring 2020 but was put on hold since everything was shut down and canceled.
In the spring of (2024), I had my first mammogram since 2018 and wondered if the lymphatic massage made any difference.
At my appointment, I had a sonogram and mammogram for a closer look, and the tech said she could not find any lymph nodes around my armpit and breast.
That was exciting news because the lymph nodes will be clear when the lymph is free to flow.
The test also showed the Fibroadenoma had shrunk from 11mm to 8mm. Yippee!!! 😍
I always felt that doing lymphatic breast massage self-care practice was improving my breasts, but now it had evidence.
Lymphatic Breast Massage Works!
This was exciting news, and it confirmed that even when we can not see the improvements within our bodies with our self-care practices, it doesn't mean they aren't happening!
Most self-care practices are simple. I encourage you to start a breast massage practice. It could be life-saving.
Lymphatic Breast Massage
Giving a lymphatic massage to your girls not only moves the lymph in and around your breast but can also be very healing. Here are a few benefits:
- Supports detoxification
- Stimulates the immune system
- Can reduce tenderness and pain
- Relieves PMS breast symptoms
Steps for Self-Breast Massage:
- At the hollow spot just above the collarbone, slide your fingers and gently pull the skin from the shoulder toward the center of the body two or three times; this opens the lymph passages and gets them moving.
- Now, put your fingers under the front side of your armpit and gently push the skin straight up into the armpit, gently pumping 8-10 times.
- Add 3 to 10 drops (depending on breast size) of Loving the Girls ~ Organic Breast Massage Oil or other breast oil to one breast.
- With one or both hands, gently move your entire breast toward the armpit with a push and release action 8-10 times.
- Then, gently move your breast towards the center of the body, and push and rerelease 8-10 times.
- Next, gently move the breast upward with a flat palm on the top of your breast as you push up and release 8-10 times.
- Lastly, gently bounce your breast in the palm of your hand while counting to 10.
- Repeat the steps with the other breast. (you can do both breasts at the same time, too!)
Moving the lymph in and around your breast is effortless and effective. It takes 3 min or less.

When I discovered I could use essential oils for anti-aging blends and save loads of money on pricey over-the-counter products.
I was thrilled!
So I started experimenting and making essential oil blends and adding the recommended drops, but thinking ~ “If a few drops can tighten and improve the look of my skin, then 50 drops will make me look 25 again!” HA 😉
Well, the 50 drops is a bit of an exaggeration, but I’m sure you can guess how that went.
I quickly learned that was NOT a good idea. I developed some eye and skin irritation.
Less is better when it comes to essential oils.
After a few mishaps, I wanted to learn the safest and most effective way to maximize the benefits of my essential oil skin care and healing blends.
So, I enroll in the ~ Aromahead Aromatherapy Certification Program!

Essential Oils
Essential Oils are Safe to Use!
Before I earned my certification I relied on the internet to find information. While there are some great places to find accurate information.
There is a lot of misinformation out there too. That’s why I didn’t know that putting more than a few drops in a face blend could be harmful.
Essential oils have many uses, but in this post you’ll learn how to use them safely and effectively in your DIY healing blends.
When you follow a few simple safety guidelines, you can create your own safe DIY blends too and will get you started on the right path to making all of your blends.

Safety Guidelines
Safely using Essential Oils in DIY Skin/Hair Care products comes down to a few simple rules ~
- Safe Dilutions
- Blending Guidelines
- Use High-Quality Oils
- Never use Oxidized Oils on your skin
- Be Mindful
Safe Dilutions
Some essential oils can irritate the skin, so they are often diluted for safety. They are typically diluted with a carrier like water, witch hazel, aloe, or carrier oils.
Carrier oils are made from plants and plant parts. They’re not volatile the way essential oils are, and they tend to be heavier.
Some great carrier oils are ~
- Jojoba oil
- Sweet almond oil
- Argan oil
- Rosehip oil
- Fractionated coconut oil
Disclaimer: Understand we are not offering any medical advice. We do not attempt to diagnose, treat, or cure anything. We can’t promise that any natural remedy will solve a particular health, skin, or mental issue. Any reliance on such information is strictly at your discretion.
Blending Guidelines
This is so very important to know because the number of drops you use per 1oz (30 ml) of carrier oil will determine:
A. If your blend will be effective at addressing the skin concern, it’s made for
B. And even more importantly, it will determine how safe the blend will be to use on the skin.
Blending Guidelines and Dilutions
“There are approximately 500–600 drops of essential oils in a 1oz (30 ml) bottle.
1% of 500 drops = 5 drops ~ 1% of 600 drops = 6 drops
- Use the following dilutions for pregnant women and children, for anyone with a compromised immune system, and for using directly on the face:
1% dilution = 5 – 6 drops total in 1 oz. (30 ml) of carrier
- For massage oils and daily use:
2% dilution = 10 – 12 total drops in 1 oz. (30 ml) carrier.
- Specific injury of muscle, tendon, and bone: 3–10% depending on the individual, age, situation, and oils being used:
3% dilution = 15 – 18 total drops in 1 oz. (30 ml) carrier.
- For local issues such as chest congestion:
3–10% depending on the individual, age, situation, and oils being used (If 1% dilution is 5–6 drops, then a 10% dilution is 50–60 drops)
- If the problem is acute and severe, you can only go up to 25% dilution for short-term use only.
Acute situations include headaches, superficial cuts, bee stings, and burns.
Severe problems include muscle cramps, intense spasms, significant bruising, or pain.
- Neat = Means undiluted essential oil, and no carrier oil can be used for the following:
These must be the highest-quality, non-oxidized oils for small areas, local use, acute situations, and short-term use.
Essential Oils
Essential Oils in DIY Skin Care
Use High-Quality Oils
These oils will be therapeutic grade, GC/MS tested, and unadulterated. Tisserand and Young define adulteration as - Intentional dilution or fabrication.
He goes on to say that essential oils can be adulterated with odorous or non-odorous substances to dilute an essential oil or absolute.
Odorous adulterants can include other essential oils, essential oil fractions or residues, synthetic aroma chemicals similar to those found in the oil, or aromachemicals not found in the oil.
Non-odorous adulterants, or extenders, include substances such as ethanol, mineral oil, isopropyl myristate, glycols, phthalates, and fixed oils such as rapeseed and cottonseed. Tisserand and Young Adulteration can happen at any point, from distillation/extraction to reaching the end-user.
Some points along the way can include:
- Co-gathering or co-distillation of several varieties (for example, several types of lavender gathered and distilled together)
- A distiller may adulterate an oil before selling it to a distributor.
- Distributors may adulterate an oil before selling it to a retailer.
- The retailer may adulterate an oil before selling it to a customer.
Never use Oxidized Oils
Degradation/oxidation is the natural process of the chemical breakdown of essential oils.
This commonly occurs from oxygen, heat, and light. The length of time that this process takes to occur can vary significantly based on the essential oil and storage conditions.
It is essential to reduce exposure to oxygen, heat, and light.
Some things that will help to slow down the process of degradation/oxidation of essential oils include storing them in:
- Dark glass containers
- Store in a dark and cool environment like the refrigerator
- Keep essential oil caps tightly sealed to minimize exposure to oxygen
Note ~ You don’t have to throw away your old or oxidized oils. You can use them in your DIY cleaning products to give them an extra boost.
Be Mindful
Be mindful when using essential oils with any of these groups ~
- People with certain health conditions
- Pregnant women
- Breastfeeding moms
- Children under 5yrs
- The elderly
- Anyone with a compromised immune system
As a result, using essential oils in an unsafe manner with any of these groups could cause some unforeseen issues.
So, if you are ever unsure, the safest thing to do is NOT use essential oils with these groups.
Essential Oils
Bottom Line
I know; I was overdoing it with the number of essential oil drops I used per ounce.
But, us mid-lifer’s want to hold on to our youthful looks. I think I just like to learn things the hard way sometimes, HA!
I may not look 25 again. However, I know that I’m using them safely now and can enjoy all the benefits of my DIY skincare and healing blends.
Now that you know about the dilution chart and guidelines for blending safely, it will make a huge difference for you too!!!

Why did they betray my trust?
Why did I say or do those things? I could have said I was sorry.
- You broke my heart into a million pieces. How could you be so cold?
I’ve been there, too! Ugg.
When I trusted another person, but they let me down in a big way.
I said or did things that hurt others. I wish I could rewind and do things differently.
I was hurt in such a devastating way that my heart shattered into a million pieces.
Man, it’s the worst feeling when you can’t stop crying. It feels like your whole body is in a constant state of quivering, and it just won’t stop.
Or, you feel so heavy and burdened by the experience that it's hard to move past the disappointments, hurt, and anger and move forward. So, we stay in our hurt and let it control us.
Sometimes, staying in our hurt feels like –
“If I continue to stay in the hurt, they will see that they were wrong for doing what they did to me. And will come crawling back to beg for my forgiveness.” (If only that were true.)
Then, when you see this is not going to happen, that’s when you get angry. Gurr… It is sooo easy to blame them for everything.

The best way to move on from disappointment, hurt, & anger is forgiveness.
This may be hard to accept, and you may be thinking ~ (I know I did!)
“Why should I forgive them??? They hurt me!”
I get it! Forgiveness is the last thing on your mind when someone has hurt you and is one of the hardest things to do.
But you only hurt yourself when you don’t learn to forgive and let go of the experience.
When you hold on to it, you generate all kinds of negative energy that keeps it locked and alive in your body~mind.

Our Minds are Causing Our Suffering ~ Let that sink in…
It does, however, take time to process everything. So be patient and gentle with yourself and feel whatever you need to feel. That way, the energy is allowed to move and be released. Forgiveness and Love
Sometimes, it’s not just about forgiving the person or situation. It can be about forgiving yourself for your part in the hurtful situation.
Again, I get it! It’s so hard to see your part and take any responsibility. When it was that person who hurt you, right?
Unfortunately, we usually (not always) have some responsibility, even though we may not see it at the time.
For me, most of the time, I didn’t stand up for myself, and I allowed the other person’s behavior to continue to hurt me.
Sometimes, I've held on to my disappointment, hurt, or anger so tightly that I let it take over my mind.
So, I had a choice! Hold on to IT, or learn to let go and move forward with forgiveness and love!
You have the same choice!
Believe me, I know this sounds impossible when you are in so much pain. However, it’s not the actions you forgive.
It’s about finding forgiveness for the person, yourself, and the experience. It’s about letting go of what is no longer happening and moving forward
.
5-Steps to Forgiveness and Love
5 steps to Forgiveness and Love
Try one or all of these practices to find what works best for you. Then, pick two or more and make them a new go-to habit for your forgiveness and love routine!
The 5-Steps are:
Draw a line on a page
Ho’oponopono
Write a letter
Meditate
Journal
Disclosure: This post may contain affiliate links.
1. Draw a line down a page Forgiveness and Love
This idea came from Rhonda Britten, author of – Change Your Life in 30 Days & Fearless Living.
You only need a piece of paper and a pen. Now, draw a line down the middle of the page.
On the top left side of the page, write the name of the person who hurt you, then write your name on the top right.
Under their name, write what it was they did that hurt you. Write all the details you want, or keep it short.
Then, on the left side of the page, under your name, write - I'm willing to forgive you.
Here’s an example:
–Their name here– –Your name here–
You left me without a word – I’m willing to forgive youWhat you said hurt me deeply – I’m willing to forgive youWhy did you betray my trust – I’m willing to forgive youAnd so on…This practice is even more powerful if you say it aloud while writing. Let yourself feel whatever you need to feel. It will help you release those unpleasant feelings and allow the energy to move.2. Ho’oponopono Forgiveness and Love
The Hawaiian mystical philosophy of Ho’oponopono shows us the powerful use of apology, forgiveness, and love in a spiritual context.
“Ho’oponopono is said on behalf of herself and all creation, seeing and understanding all life’s interconnectedness.
Whenever she feels even a tiny twinge of fear or discomfort, she can use these four statements to restore her sanity and peace.
Therefore, she takes complete responsibility for everything happening in her life. She apologizes then asks for forgiveness, thanks, and love for herself, the other person, and the Whole.”
Based on ancient Hawaiian wisdom, they use these four statements to cleanse and heal our collective minds continually. Forgiveness and Love
I’m sorry
Please forgive me
Thank you
I love you
Think about the person or experience that caused you hurt. Then, repeat these four phrases until you feel a release from your mind and body.
You can do this exercise at any time throughout the day as needed. Plus, you can print a copy and put it by your desk, hang it on the frig., bathroom mirror, anywhere and everywhere you will see it, as a reminder to forgive and love!
3. Write a letter Forgiveness and Love
Writing down your thoughts and feelings is a great practice when you have so much stuff in your head. Start writing, and don’t worry about grammar.
Write down everything you feel, write and write, and let it all out. This helps release those tormenting thoughts in your mind.
“Whatever hurt you is not happening anymore.“
You don’t need to send it. Forgiveness and Love
Once you are done writing everything down, you can burn it.
When you write it all down, it helps to release the gunk from your mind and body.
Then, when you burn it, you’ve released it again into thin air.
4. Meditate Forgiveness and Love
Meditation is a great practice to start. It helps by getting you back into your body and grounding you. Meditating will help release negative trapped energy inside your body and can help quiet your mind.
Benefits of Meditation Forgiveness and Love
- Helps to release disappointment, hurt, & anger
- Can relieve daily stresses
- Helps with physical pain
- Calms emotional pain
- It helps find forgiveness and love
- Can lower blood pressure
- Get a deeper, more restful sleep
- Connect with spirit/higher self
Meditating is a learned skill that we can all develop. So make sure you give it a chance. Try it for at least a month or longer to hone this new practice and find what works best for you.
Meditating will clear your mind, so you can go deep into releasing new & old negative energy and those tormenting thoughts from your mind.
For more information about meditation, check out this post!

5. Journal Forgiveness and Love
Journaling is a great way to let it all out. It’s an ongoing letter to release, forgive, and love. When you journal, you can recreate your story by changing what’s inside you and how you think and feel about what happened.
It’s not about changing that person or the experience.
5-Steps to Forgiveness and Love
Rewriting your story will be liberating!
Here are two examples: Forgiveness and Love
- “They forgot her birthday, which hurts her and makes her feel like she's not loved.”
Rewrite this statement to show forgiveness and love.
- “This person she loves forgot her birthday. I wonder if something stressful is going on that made them forget?”
In the first statement, she feels sad or mad that they forgot.
The second statement she could be thinking - "When they start forgetting things, they are usually stressed or bothered by something."So now she feels concerned and wonders what may be stressing or bothering them.
OR try this one Forgiveness and Love
- When she shares her good news – “They say and do mean things to her, which hurts her or makes her mad.”
Rewrite this statement to show forgiveness and love.
- “They may be feeling insecure, angry, or lonely. And when she shared her good news, it triggered them, so they lashed out at her again.”
In the first statement, she feels hurt and angry that this person is always saying mean things and lashing out at her.
The second statement shows that she knows they are always doing this to her because they are sensitive and usually speak before they think.
Acknowledging this will help her let it go because she will realize it is not about her. It’s genuinely about them.
You get the idea! Forgiveness and Love
Life continually gives us unpleasant experiences that we need to work through and overcome, big and small. We all do the best we can, but sometimes we get the brunt of someone else’s insecurities, faults, meanness, whatever it is.
Remember, forgiveness isn’t always about someone else. Sometimes, we need to forgive ourselves too.
For not following through, not loving yourself, not taking care of yourself, or beating yourself up with your words.
“It’s not what happens to you in life. It’s how you respond to it!”
The 5-Steps to Forgiveness and Love are not a one-time fix-it-all event.
So, whenever you feel stressed, sad, hurt, angry, or disappointed, use these practices to move the stuck energy and release it so you can return to the present moment.
It’s all you have, so why not enjoy it?

I thought as I stumbled, hit the pavement, and felt shock waves of pain rush through my body.
"My third fall in just 8 weeks! Gurr."
The first two happened at home. But this time, I was in a public parking lot surrounded by strangers looking at me with pity. After this fall, I knew I needed to improve my leg strength and balance.
So, I started doing low-impact movements like walking, Tai Chi, & balance exercises. These are great activities that will boost your leg strength and overall well-being without sweating like mad or overexerting yourself!
“This is excellent news for those of us who aren’t athletic and don’t like to sweat ~ Yes!”

Helps Maintain Weight
Lowers High Cholesterol
Eases Joint Pain
Reduces Inflammation
Help with Depression
Reduces Emotional Stress
Set your own pace
When you first start, try walking every two or three days. This will give your muscles and joints time to recover before you start walking again. As you gain strength and endurance, you can pick up your pace and walk every day!
However, a slower pace can help reduce pressure on your joints. Going slower is also better for those of us with arthritis or other joint conditions that may inhibit our walking ability.
8 key points
Stretch before & after your walk. Hold the stretch for 20 to 30 seconds. Stretching reduces soreness and improves your flexibility.
Make sure to swing your arms if you walk at a slower pace. This will increase the benefits.
If you’re listening to music or a podcast, keep the volume down to hear nearby sounds, such as vehicles, people, or animals.
Remember to stay hydrated! Drink plenty of filtered water before and after your walk.
If you struggle with balance or pain, consider using walking poles or sticks to help steady you. This also reduces some weight on your joints.
Talk to your doctor before starting any exercise program.
When the weather is terrible, consider walking in an indoor space, like a mall or a big-box store.
Invest in a supportive (and cute;) pair of walking shoes to avoid pain and injury, especially if you have foot, knee, hip, or back problems.
11 Health Benefits of Walking Energetically
1. Improved Physical & Cardio Fitness
Walking is an aerobic exercise that strengthens and conditions your heart and lungs. Walking increases your capacity for activities like climbing stairs so that you won’t wear out or run out of breath.
Bicycling, dancing, and walking are excellent cardio activities that improve your heart rate and lungs. Cardio exercises burn a good amount of calories to help prevent weight gain.
“If it’s been a while since you’ve moved your body, try easing into a cardio habit with short periods of lower-impact activities.”
It’s good to know that you don’t have to exercise for 30 minutes at a time. Whew!
When starting, do 5 to 10-minute spurts. This will help you build up and get stronger.
2. Increased Body Leanness and Healthy Weight
Hormonal changes and decreased estrogen associated with aging and menopause can cause weight gain and muffin tops… Ugg. The metabolism rate at which the body burns calories starts to slow down.
However, exercise like walking has been shown to slow weight gain, could prevent it entirely, and can help lose that extra weight.
Although nutrition is a large part of weight loss, burning calories through regular walking can help you create a calorie shortage, leading to weight loss. Yippee!
3. Improves Your Balance and Coordination
A combination of walking, strength training, and specific workouts like tai chi or yoga can improve balance and help prevent falls, particularly in mature adults.
Plus, walking improves your lower body strength and balance, which will help keep you more stable.
“Falls can be rough. Fortunately, I only had a few bumps and bruises when I fell.”
~ Simple Balance Exercise ~
Stand on one leg for 1 minute at a time every day. Then, work up to 3-5 minutes. This will help improve your strength and balance.
If you’re unsteady at first, hold yourself against a wall or chair with one hand. Do this until you build your strength and balance, then stand without any aid.
It may take a bit to build up your strength to balance on one leg for 3-5 min. but remember, ‘Practice Makes Progress!’
4. Strengthens Your Bones and Muscles
Walking is a weight-bearing activity that supports your body weight. Weight-bearing activities stimulate your bones and muscles to help keep them strong.
Your muscles fuel your metabolism, which means you can burn more calories throughout the day. However, muscle mass decreases as you age, and menopause can speed up the loss. Bummer.
While strength training is the best way to maintain muscle, all types of exercise and walking may help slow the loss. Walking helps work several different muscle groups, including:
The quadriceps
Hamstrings
Glutes
Calves
Ankles
When these muscles get stronger, they help improve joint stability, too! Plus, your upper body is working, too. Though not directly affected, it supports your torso and pelvis as you walk.
“Swinging your arms while walking will give you an upper-body workout, too.”
5. Improves Your Mood and Fights Depression
Walking can improve the quality of your life when you deal with depression. So, going for a 30-minute walk three times a week can be an effective antidepressant. Cool!
Note ~ Never stop taking any prescribed medications without checking with your doctor first.
Plus, the extra benefits of walking will help with:
Sharper thinking—YES!
Feeling emotionally grounded—Great!
Not be so limited by your depression—Fantastic!

6. Reduces Back Pain
Walking is an effective healing method for back pain. A steady walking routine can lead to:
Stronger feet, legs, and hips
Core muscles will get stronger
Stability for the spine
A healthy spine can keep the body upright and balanced
Improves circulation throughout the body
Allows the body to hydrate better
7. Revs-up Your Immunity
Walking boosts your immune system. Physical activity increases the number of white blood cells circulating in the system. These cells fight infections and other illnesses as part of your body’s immune system.
With as little as 15 to 30 minutes of walking a day, you can give your body a boost and stimulate your immune cells. The more you move, the better prepared your body is to fight off pathogens. Health Benefits of Walking
“There are plenty of reasons to put Go for a Walk on your to-do list.”
8. Relieves constipation
A lack of balanced gut bacteria is linked to constipation. Aerobic exercises like brisk walking could help increase intestinal bacteria, an essential part of a healthy gut.
Walking helps to get things moving and improves your constipation symptoms when you engage in a minimum of 20 minutes of brisk walking 4 to 7 times a week.
9. Improves Sleep
Getting your steps in during the day can affect how well you sleep at night. Walking is related to stress reduction and physical well-being, which could be a pathway to better sleep.
Plus, the social benefits of walking with another person could boost your mood and improve your sleep.
10. Helps Ease Hot Flashes
When going through menopause, you may not feel motivated to exercise with uncomfortable symptoms like hot flashes and mood swings.
However, regular physical activity like walking can make menopause symptoms more bearable. Awesome!
Exercise is a great way to help you regain control over your midlife body changes.
11. Boosts Your Energy
Walking enhances the oxygen levels in your body. And triggers hormone levels of cortisol, epinephrine, and norepinephrine. These are the hormones that help elevate energy levels.
So, going for an energetic walk when you feel tired or in an afternoon slump may be more effective at boosting your energy than grabbing a cup of coffee. Cool!

Don’t forget your feet
Here’s a supportive and ‘cute’ pair of walking shoes I highly recommend!
Skechers – Women’s Flex Appeal Sneaker with a Memory Foam - I Love these walking shoes! They are:
Comfortable
Supportive
Shock-absorbing
and have an air-cooled memory foam cushioned comfort insole.
Plus, they come in an array of colors!
“My feet are super tender, so I added another memory foam insert to make them even more comfortable; now I can walk much longer without stopping to rest my feet!"
Running short on time?
Get your daily walk-in ~
While running errands – Walk the parking lot or around the store for 10 minutes.
Waiting at the doctor's office, walk through the halls for 10 minutes.
Climb up and downstairs for five min = a 10 min walk. (climbing burns more calories than walking).
Park in the furthest spot.
Get off the bus or train a stop early to walk to your destination.
Take the stairs.
Encourage your colleagues to go on walking meetings and lunches away from the office.
I encourage you to find a walking routine that works for you and see how it improves your leg strength and balance.
In my case, after making daily walking and balancing exercises a priority, my leg muscles are stronger, and my balance has improved. Win, Win!!!
“Now I’m hitting the pavement regularly, and not in the dreadful, flat-on-my-face way! ;)”

Have you ever wanted to drink more water daily?
So, continually fill up a mega tumbler and carry it around with you all day.
Only to end up running to the bathroom every 30 minutes? That's no fun, right?
It's easy to want to go all in when we start a new wellness practice to see and feel the benefits immediately.
I did this when I started my health journey to improve my autoimmune symptoms.
But, I discovered that too much of anything at once could cause more problems, which is never helpful, especially when trying to feel better.
Plus, when we try to go too fast, the chances of giving up before it becomes a new health habit are much higher.
So, what's the best way to start drinking more water?
Sneak Peek of What's Inside
- Here’s a Quick List
- Our Body of Water
- What is Dehydration?
- How Much Water to Drink in a Day?
- Health Benefits of Drinking Water
- Drinking Water Dos and Don’ts
- What’s Next?
When I first started my health journey, Everyday Drinking Water was on my list of better food choices. I wanted to make sure I was only putting the best food and water into my body!
As Jim Rohn said:
“Treat your body like a temple, NOT a woodshed!”
I took these words to heart! I knew if I was going to improve my health and feel physically better, I needed to be mindful of everything that crossed my lips and ended up in my body! drink more water
So, I began researching water and found that there are many choices when it comes to everyday drinking water!
Here’s a Quick List
Alkaline Water
Bottled Water
Coconut Water
Distilled Water
Reverse Osmosis Water
Sparkling Water
Spring Water
Tap Water
Who knew there were so many choices? drink more water
When choosing the best type of everyday drinking water, you want to aim for pH balance.
Distilled water is too acidic, and alkaline water is too alkaline.
An ideal pH of your water should be between 6.5 to 7.5, which is neutral.

Our Body of Water
The majority of the body is made up of water, with up to 75% of the body's weight due to H2O. Most of the water is found within the cells of the body. The rest is found in the blood vessels and the spaces between cells. Without water, we would not live for very long before dehydration would set in.
What is Dehydration?
Dehydration occurs when the amount of water leaving the body is greater than the amount being taken in. The body is very dynamic and always changing. This is especially true with water levels in the body.
We lose water routinely when we:
Breathe, and humidified air leaves the body
When we sweat to cool the body after exertion
Urinate or have a bowel movement to rid the body of waste products drink more water
On an average day, a person needs to drink a significant amount of water to replace this routine loss.
How Much Water to Drink in a Day?
At the end of the day, no one can tell you exactly how much water you need. This will depend on your ~ Age, Weight, and Overall Health.
Try experimenting to see what works best for you. If you don't drink much water now, start with one 6 to 8-oz glass a day for a week and increase it by 2 to 4 oz a week until you find what works best for you.
Some people may function better with more water than usual, while for others, it only results in more frequent trips to the bathroom. Ugg.
If you want to keep things simple, follow these guidelines ~
Drink room-temperature water throughout the day to stay hydrated.
Decrease water intake when you start running to the bathroom every thirty minutes.
During high heat, exercise, and illness, make sure to drink enough water to compensate for the lost fluids.
There you go, simple, right?
This should work for the majority of people.
Note: For those of us living with an autoimmune condition and on medication, we want to drink more water to help flush the liver and kidneys so that they can perform at their best!

Drinking Water Dos and Don’ts
Alkaline Water
Normal drinking water generally has a neutral pH of 7. Alkaline water typically has a pH of 8 or 9.
Your body is not designed to drink alkaline water alone. If you drink too much, it can disrupt the acid production in your stomach, resulting in indigestion, GERD, or stomach ulcers.
Other risks include vulnerability to bacterial overgrowth and other germs, which can cause infection in your small intestine (SIBO). Your body may also have difficulty digesting and absorbing nutrients.
~Don’t - drink alkaline water every day.
Bottled Water
It is everywhere, and there are a lot of choices. There are different stories out there about some bottled water is just tap water???
Plus, most plastic bottles can leach into your water, and no one needs plastic in their diet, right?
You can buy a glass water bottle and fill it with filtered water. That way, you'll always know what you're drinking.
And why pay for water when you can filter your own?
There are several affordable options when it comes to a home filtration system. However, sometimes our only option is bottled water in plastic, but there are some better choices than others.
Go HERE for more information on bottled water.
+Do - Buy a glass water bottle and fill it with filtered water!
Coconut Water
Coconut water is slightly sweet with a subtle, nutty flavor. It's also fairly low in calories and carbs. It’s delicious, nutritious, and a natural beverage that’s extremely good for you.
It may benefit your heart, blood sugar, and kidney health.
Water is freshest when it comes directly from the coconut. To start drinking, simply press a straw into the soft part of a green coconut.
Store the coconut in your refrigerator and consume it within two to three weeks of purchase.
You can also buy bottled coconut water at most health food stores. However, be sure to read the ingredients to verify you're getting 100% coconut water. Some bottled brands contain added sugar or flavoring agents. And no one needs extra sugar, right?
+Do - Drink Coconut water and enjoy every day!
Distilled Water
Distilled water is a type of purified water that removes contaminants and minerals. Since distilled water doesn’t contain its own minerals, it has a tendency to pull them from whatever it touches to maintain a balance.
So, when you drink distilled water, it may pull small amounts of minerals from your body, including from your teeth. Depending on where you live, distilled water could be better for you than tap water.
If your town’s water is tainted with harmful chemicals or pesticides, you’re safer drinking distilled or bottled water. I recommend using mineral drops in distilled water.
- Don’t - drink distilled water every day unless add mineral drops.
Reverse Osmosis Water (RO)
Reverse Osmosis is a type of filtration process. The water machines in health food stores typically produce reverse osmosis water. However, going to the store to buy your water can be, well a hassle right?
I highly recommend a countertop unit called AquaTru. It filters tap water into RO water and is so convenient!
Keep in mind that reverse osmosis systems have no way to differentiate between “bad” ingredients and good ones.
While harmful contaminants are being removed, the trace minerals that our bodies need to perform their best, like iron and manganese, are also being removed. Therefore, you'll want to use mineral drops in reverse osmosis water.
+Do - re-mineral reverse osmosis water and drink every day.
Sparkling Water drink more water
Sparkling water is water that has been infused with carbon dioxide gas under pressure.
Known as Carbonated water. Carbonation produces a bubbly drink.
Here are a few options ~
- Sparkling water
- Club soda
- Soda water
- Seltzer water
- and Fizzy water
With the exception of seltzer water, carbonated waters usually have salt added to improve the taste.
Sometimes, small amounts of other minerals are included, too.
Natural sparkling mineral waters are different. These waters are captured from a mineral spring and tend to contain minerals and sulfur compounds. These waters are often carbonated as well.
+Do - Enjoy sparkling water.
Spring Water
Mountain spring water is some of the healthiest water on the planet because it is "living water."
Living water, like "living" food, is in its raw, natural state, as nature intended.
The best source of natural spring water is from a natural spring.
But there are some good spring water choices at your local health food store too.
+Do - Spring water is a great choice for everyday drinking water.
Tap Water
The tap water we drink, cook with, and bathe in typically comes from surface water sources like:
Streams
Rivers
Lakes
- and Reservoirs
Or from underground sources like aquifers or permeable rocks that can store and transmit water.
A range of dangerous pollutants has been found in this water, including:
Bacteria like E. coli
Toxic algae
Lead
Sulfur
Excess iron
....and general dirt and grit, which is known to lead to a host of health issues.
From gastrointestinal problems to neurological disorders, as well as reproductive issues.
Tap water contains, Fluoride and other chemicals we don’t want to be ingesting. Unlike other chemicals monitored by water systems, fluoride is intentionally added to drinking water.
Even though research clearly shows that fluoride is most effective when used topically in toothpaste and not ingested.
Luckily, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has a variety of programs and searchable maps that make checking the contaminants in your water simple.
~DON’T drink tap water.
What's Next?
Running can be a great way to get in some extra exercise. But running to the bathroom every 30 minutes from too much water won't get you the kind of results you want!
Be mindful of what type of water you are putting in your body. Remember to start slow and build up to what works best for you.
